Brayden Point is expected to be ready for training camp after he sustained a significant tear in his right quadricep during the postseason.
"I've had tears in the past where you can still find your stride and you can play and be effective," Point said on Tuesday. "But this one was different. The power wasn't there and the tight turns and all that kind of stuff ... the stuff you need to do to be effective, especially in the Stanley Cup Finals." He sat out the final four games of the Stanley Cup Final against Colorado due to the ailment. He also missed 10 playoff games after he initially suffered the injury in Game 7 of Round 1 against Toronto on May 14. Point said that he didn't re-aggravate or worsen the injury when he returned for the first two games versus the Avalanche.
Brayden Point had a torn quad muscle.
Point was injured in Game 7 of the first round. He tried to return in the Stanley Cup Final and did play in two games, but ultimately ended up back on the sidelines. The good news is that he's a few weeks away from recovering, so he should be fine for training camp.
Coach Jon Cooper hasn't ruled out Brayden Point for a possible return if the Stanley Cup Final is extended to Game 7.
Cooper expects to have the same lineup for Game 6 on Sunday against Colorado as the Lightning had in Friday's 3-2 victory. "Everybody is trying to get back into the lineup and there are some things you just can’t do and, when you cannot do what you are used to doing, it is tough on the player and I think that is part of our issue here," said the Tampa Bay bench boss. "He is still plugging along here and rehabbing and trying to get better and why knows, if the series goes one more game, you never know but it is tough on these guys because they are such competitors." Cooper added that Point's injury is "severe."
Brayden Point (lower body) will not play in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final Sunday.
That's according to coach Jon Cooper who is the final authority. Point was injured in Game 7 of the opening round and returned for the first two games of the Stanley Cup Final but has not played since. Point skated on Sunday and Cooper still did not rule him out if a Game 7 is necessary.
