Antti Raanta will need six-to-eight weeks to recover from a sprained MCL.
Raanta sported a knee brace when he spoke to the media on Thursday. He was injured in Game 7 against the New York Rangers on Monday. "You could just tell something popped and it was painful," said Raanta. He will have the summer to recover after the Hurricanes were eliminated from the postseason. Raanta also shared that he sustained a sprain in his neck back in Round 1 against Boston when he was hit by Bruins forward David Pastrnak.
Antti Raanta was forced to leave Game 7 in the second period with a lower-body injury.
Raanta stretched all out in attempting to stop Mika Zibanejad from scoring. While he was successful in doing so, it appeared that he stretched his groin muscle. Pyotr Kochetkov has replaced Raanta in net with 4:23 remaining in the second period. Raanta had made 16 saves before the injury with the Hurricanes trailing 2-0.
Antti Raanta is expected to get the start Monday in net for Carolina as he is in the starters net at practice.
That usually means he will get the start and that makes sense with Frederik Andersen still unable to go and rookie Pyotr Kocketkov backing up. Raanta was chased from the crease in Game 6 after giving up three goals on 13 shots in a 5-2 loss Saturday. Overall, Raanta is 6-5 in the post-season with a 2.20 GAA and a .924 save percentage.
Antti Raanta stopped 10 of 13 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Rangers in Game 6 Saturday night.
Raanta lasted just 23:24 minutes before he was yanked in favor of Pyotr Kochetkov. Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, Kochetkov couldn't stop the Rangers either and ended up allowing two goals on 12 shots. To be fair to Kochetkov, he went into the day with a total of five games worth of NHL experience, including two playoff games.
