Andrew Shaw (concussion) announced his retirement from the NHL Monday.

Shaw has had several concussions and his doctors suggested that he retire from the game he loves, a suggestion that he has agreed to. He played 14 games this season, scoring twice and adding two assists before his last concussion curtailed his season and eventually his career. We wish Shaw all the best in retirement and hope he stays healthy.

Andrew Shaw, who is participating in training camp with Chicago, admitted that retirement was a consideration for him.

"It really was just committing to making sure I felt better," Shaw said regarding his concussion. "Whether or not I was going to play or not wasn’t my first goal. My first goal was to get better and feel like myself. ... Obviously there were times where it was tough and exhausting but grinded, grinded every day. Grinded months to a year to get where I am. It’s good to know I can get back to feeling good." He missed the last 44 games of the regular season and all nine of Chicago's postseason matches, but he has been a full participant at camp.
