Jaydon Blue
Player News
Cowboys selected Texas RB Jaydon Blue with the No. 149 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Playing as part of a committee at Texas, Blue (5’9/196) elected to forego his senior year and enter the NFL Draft early. He led the Longhorns in rushing touchdowns in his last season, totaling eight on 134 carries for 730 yards. Though his smaller frame limits Blue’s ability to be a workhorse and consistent pass-protector, he is an effective receiver with burst. He caught 42 passes for 368 yards and six scores last season. A former track runner, Blue ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, showing speed that made him an explosive player with three plays of at least 45 yards in 2024. He is a mismatch for linebackers on routes out of the backfield and his agility makes him dangerous in the open field. Blue profiles as a change-of-pace back with home-run ability and a strong receiving prowess at the next level. He joins a Cowboys backfield where he can take third-down snaps in a murky running back room.
NBC Houston’s Aaron Wilson reports that the Texans would like to add a “speed” running back in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Wilson said that the idea is to pair “a speed back to go with Joe Mixon,” noting that the Texans actually told Texas RB Jaydon Blue that they plan to draft a running back. Blue was clocked at the second-fastest 40-yard-dash time, positionally, running it in 4.38 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine. He is an accomplished receiver out of the backfield and would fit the mold as a passing-down complement to Mixon. In his 2024 regular season at Texas, Blue rushed 125 times for 706 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 33-of-48 targets for 302 yards and four touchdowns.
