Chiefs waived RB Deneric Prince.
The second-year UDFA appeared to be making a run at No. 2 status. Then training camp began. Prince ended up falling behind FB Carson Steele, while not even Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s health issues could save Prince’s roster status. Prince’s preseason film was certainly that of a mediocre player. Still only 24, a second chance elsewhere remains possible if he doesn’t sign to the Chiefs’ practice squad.
RB Deneric Prince rushed three times for minus-one yard and caught 1-of-1 targets for three yards in the Chiefs’ preseason game against the Bears.
Prince’s position as the No. 3 running back appears safe, given his usage but his overall preseason performance leaves some to be desired, averaging 4.4 yards per rushing attempt and forcing just one missed tackles on 14 attempts.
Deneric Prince ran for 16 yards on four attempts and caught two passes for 10 yards against the Jaguars on Saturday in a preseason battle.
Prince was the third running back in the rotation for the Chiefs on Saturday, wish Isaiah Pacheco playing the first series and Clyde Edwards-Helaire getting two carries for zero yards after Pacheco exited. Prince has seen snaps with the first-team offense during practices, but he was pretty clearly third in line for Kansas City during Saturday’s contest. He was also outplayed by Carson Steele (7-29-1), but it doesn’t seem likely that Prince is in danger of losing the third spot just yet.
Chiefs RB Deneric Prince on Tuesday saw first-team practice snaps behind Isaiah Pacheco.
Prince, a metric darling who was cut by Kansas City last August, is back with the team and functioning as the RB2 in the first day of training camp. Clyde Edwards-Helaire took snaps behind Pacheco and Prince on Tuesday, with Keontay Ingram and Louis Rees-Zammit working with the second-team offense. While it’s important not to read too much into early training camp usage, it’s notable that Prince is working with the first team at all. The battle between Prince and CEH will be one to monitor in the coming weeks.
