Jake Haener completed 4-of-10 passes for 49 yards and one interception in Week 15 against the Commanders.
The Saints only needed to see five drives out of Haener before benching him in the second half in favor of Spencer Rattler. Of the four passes Haener completed, three went to Alvin Kamara, with his longest resulting in a 29-yard play that came on 24 yards after the catch by Kamara. Haener through a bad interception in the second quarter to rookie cornerback Mike Sainristill, and also took three sacks in the first half. Rookie Spencer Rattler came on and immediately led the Saints to a touchdown drive on his first possession.
Jake Haener will be the starting quarterback for Week 15 against the Commanders according to Nick Underhill of New Orleans football.
That means Derek Carr, obviously, will not be able to go while recovering from his concussion and hand injuries. Haener will make his second start of the season, and hope for better results than the 9-for-17 for 122 yards he registered in the 26-8 loss to the Chargers in a 26-8 loss. He’d be an absolute desperation play for those in two-quarterback leagues for the Week 15 bout against Washington.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes QB Jake Haener is “well positioned” to start in Week 15 against the Commanders.
Fowler added that “no firm determination has been made” about who will start for New Orleans this week after Derek Carr went down in Week 14 with a left hand injury. Though he’s been better than Spencer Rattler this year, Haener has completed just 49 percent of his attempts, with a 37 percent drop back success rate. Whether it’s Haener or Rattler, the Washington defense profiles as an elite fantasy option in Week 15.
Jake Haener completed 9-of-17 attempts for 117 yards in the Saints’ Week 8 loss against the Chargers, adding two rushes for ten yards.
Haener took over for Spencer Rattler, who was benched after two and a half quarters of erratic play. Haener was more accurate and more willing to push the ball downfield; he would certainly be better for the Saints offense than Rattler if Derek Carr (oblique) misses another week.
