2024 Player Outlook
Luke Musgrave earned the starting job over fellow rookie Tucker Kraft managed games of 6, 7, and 8 targets over the first half of the season. Musgrave was injured in a Week 11 game against the Chargers however and Kraft stepped in admirably in his absence, yielding a few 6 target games himself. Given their profiles, I would expect Musgrave to skew pass-catching over Kraft even in a split but the Packers might simply be too crowded with pass catchers for either of them to have massive upside.
Player News
Luke Musgrave was not targeted in Green Bay’s Wild Card Round loss to the Eagles.
The 2023 second-round pick played 15 of 66 snaps, finishing as the clear No. 2 tight end. He missed the vast majority of the season while dealing with an ankle injury, ending the year with a 7/45 receiving line on 10 targets in seven games. If we write off this as a lost season for Musgrave, you can build a comeback case for 2025 on his draft stock and what he showed in 2023. The problem is that Tucker Kraft has placed the Packers TE1 bar pretty high, and the team rarely uses a second tight end. Musgrave is not a must-roster in deeper dynasty leagues at this point.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Packers will activate TE Luke Musgrave for Week 16’s game against the Saints.
Musgrave hasn’t played since suffering an ankle injury in Week 4. According to Pelissero, the Packers plan to “ease him in,” meaning fantasy managers shouldn’t rush to insert him into their fantasy lineups if they still have decisions to make at tight end. Musgrave caught just five passes for 22 yards in the four games he appeared in and never played on more than 56 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in those games. With just two weeks left in the fantasy season, Musgrave will be hard to trust and is likely best left on waivers.
Packers TE Luke Musgrave (ankle) is questionable for Week 16 against the Saints.
Musgrave will still need to be activated from injured reserve but the team is leaving the door open for a potential return after missing the previous 10 games. Even if active, Musgrave is unlikely to unseat Tucker Kraft atop the team’s depth chart at the position.
Luke Musgrave (ankle) was limited in Friday’s practice.
This is Musgrave’s fifth straight LP designation since the Packers opened his 21-day practice window, telling us little about his Monday Night Football status. Musgrave was kept inactive last week. If he is able to practice in full tomorrow, he should be good to go. Fantasy managers can only view him as a touchdown-dependent TE2 though, playing behind Tucker Kraft.
