Goodson beat out Evan Hull for the RB3 gig during training camp and even saw some work as a passing downs specialist early in the year. With Trey Sermon struggling to replace Jonathan Taylor when the latter missed time with an ankle injury, Goodson made a spot-start in Week 7, running 14 times for 51 yards and a touchdown. Despite outplaying Sermon sans Taylor, the Colts stuck with Sermon as the backup in the second half of the season. Goodson touched the ball in two games over the final 10 weeks. On the plus side, Goodson carved out a high-volume role on special teams, giving him a shot at making the roster next season. He finished the year with 32 carries for 153 yards and a touchdown, adding 10 receptions for 56 yards and another score.

Jonathan Taylor continues to get all of the rushing work for the Colts, but head coach Shane Steichen seems to want other running backs on the field in passing situations. That meant Goodson was on the field in the red zone on a play-action pass that led to his two-yard touchdown catch. Even with that touchdown, he remains off the fantasy radar.

Goodson’s seven-yard third quarter touchdown was one of only two total TDs in the game. He out-snapped, out-touched and out-gained Trey Sermon in Jonathan Taylor’s absence, though Sermon did turn his nine touches into 49 yards. Goodson also got out-rushed by Anthony Richardson. Jonathan Taylor’s return hasn’t seemed particularly imminent, but he is nearing what would be the typical return date for a high-ankle sprain. Goodson’s FLEX value will disappear if Taylor manages to suit up vs. Houston.

Goodson got out-touched 18-12 by Trey Sermon, but he out-gained his backfield mate 65-29. A 33-yard rumble was to thank, but Goodson was definitely looking like the more explosive Colts back. Not that he was lighting things up. The Colts have been shifting their backfield roles around in Jonathan Taylor’s absence. JT didn’t seem particularly close to returning this week. Goodson could have some last-gasp PPR FLEX appeal against the Dolphins in Week 7.
