Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon said he is “really excited to see where” Marvin Harrison Jr.'s game goes in his second season.
Gannon heaped praise on MHJ for his work ethic and initiative during the offseason. He also mentioned that Harrison Jr. added some muscle mass after his rookie campaign. The former No. 4 overall pick went for 885 yards and eight scores in 2024. While those aren’t bad numbers, they are far from what you would expect from a player of Harrison Jr.'s pedigree. The Cardinals used him to stretch the field, opening up easy-button targets for Trey McBride. This may have worked for these offense, but it was a dreadful utilization of the rookie’s skill set. The Cardinals have to design more short and intermiedate looks for MHJ if he is going to break out in his second season.
Jets QB Jordan Travis retired from the NFL after one season.
Travis suffered a catastrophic ankle injury late in his final season at Florida State in 2023. The Jets took a shot on him in the fifth round of the draft, but Travis suffered a setback in his recovery and did not play as a rookie. In his statement via the team, Travis said his leg never responded the way he had hoped and the medical staff advised him to return. It’s a sad ending for a player who had a future in the NFL before his tragic injury.
The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. thinks that if Jermaine Burton “can straighten out and shift from headache to reliable, there are roles available.”
The Bengals exited the draft without adding receiver help, and Andrei Iosivas was more reliable than spectacular in his second season. Dehner Jr. notes that Burton went through “two evictions, trouble with the law, missed meetings, missed practices, being left off a road trip and healthy scratches” and said Burton is “lucky to even have this opportunity.” The 2024 third-rounder was seen in the building all week during draft weekend and this is likely a make-or-break year for him. He’s not a must-hold in dynasty at this point, but he retains upside.
Steelers released DT Montravius Adams.
Adams was signed by the Steelers off the Saints’ practice squad during the 2021 season and signed a two-year deal the following offseason. A former third-round pick from the 2017 draft, Adams has appeared in 96 games during his eight-year career while making 25 starts. He totaled 14 tackles and one sack in 11 games last season and quickly became expendable after the Steelers selected Oregon DT Derrick Harmon in the first round of last week’s draft. Adams could still provide value as added depth on a roster, but his days as a starter are likely over.
