The offseason acquisitions of D’Onta Foreman and Travis Homer, in addition to the selection Roschon Johnson in the fourth round of this year’s draft, made Ebner obsolete in the Chicago backfield. The addition of return specialist Trent Taylor sealed the deal for Ebner, paving the way for the team to waive him with an injury settlement.

Ebner served as Khalil Herbert’s primary backup and earned some quality touches. Interestingly enough, he saw three targets to Herbert’s one. Other than that, Ebner was there to spell Herbert. He will continue to be the Bears’ RB2 as long as David Montgomery is out. 

He was a clear change-up back to Khalil Herbert and engaged in the series-splitting that Chicago has been trying. His one pass target and five of his seven carries came on one second-quarter series that ended in a field goal. Ebner has no stand-alone value, but is worth monitoring depending on the fallout from David Montgomery's (knee/ankle).injury.

Ebner was injured in last Thursday's preseason game and has now missed a week. It is possible he is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, though even a garden-variety ankle ailment could easily be a week-plus issue in the camp environment. Both David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert should be healthy to begin the year, keeping Ebner's value limited to Dynasty leagues.
