Saints signed RB/WR Velus Jones Jr., formerly of the Panthers, to a one-year contract.
Bouncing around after his disastrous Bears stint, Jones Jr. spent sections of last year with the Jaguars and Panthers while touching the ball on offense a total of four times in three active games. Entering his age-28 season, Jones Jr. is essentially a gadget player on offense and shouldn’t threaten for much playing time with the Saints if he makes the 53-man roster.
Panthers signed RB/WR Velus Jones Jr. off the Jaguars practice squad.
With Jonathan Brooks and Raheem Blackshear both injured — Brooks for the season — the plan behind Chuba Hubbard in the Carolina backfield is shifting. Mike Boone will probably get some elevations and be the main secondary running back. Jones Jr. might take Blackshear’s spot on the roster as a returner if Blackshear gets sent to injured reserve.
Jaguars signed WR/RB Velus Jones Jr to their practice squad.
Jones Jr. was waived last Saturday by the Bears and finds a new home in Jacksonville. The former third-round pick had just two rushing attempts with the Bears this year, and is sitting on 22 career targets and 19 career rushes. The Jaguars haven’t exactly been the team that has generated open area for their offensive players in space this year, but perhaps Jones Jr. just needed a fresh slate.

The third-year, 27-year-old player has a chance to begin anew. Jones switched from wide receiver to running back this offseason in an attempt to retain a roster spot. After eight weeks, the experiment has concluded. Jones will likely land with another team quickly. His 4.31-second 40-yard dash speed remains usable on special teams.
