Player News
Jets CB Sauce Gardner has been named the Associated Pressâ?? Defensive Rookie of the Year.
The No. 4 overall pick, Gardner entered the league as a finished product, operating as a shutdown corner from Day 1. The 22-year-old is arguably already the best corner in the league. There was no question he would take home this yearâ??s DROY honors. Now the question becomes if he will contend for overall Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.
Jets CB Sauce Gardner (calf) was removed from the Week 12 injury report and will play against the Bears.
Gardner was limited in the Jets' first two practices of the week because of the calf issue. Beats reporters noted he was moving well while working off to the side during the open portions of the practices. He got in a full session to close the week and will play without any restrictions on Sunday. If Justin Fields is unable to play, expect Sauce to shut down Darnell Mooney this week.
Jets signed first-round CB Ahmad Gardner to a four-year contract.
Selected with the fourth overall pick in this year's draft, Gardner was the CB2 of this year's draft, but was regarded by many as the best of the bunch. Famously known for his nickname "Sauce", Gardner started all three seasons for the University of Cincinnati, and didn't allow a touchdown pass in his career. Gardner is the first of three first rounders selected by the Jets to sign his rookie deal, which comes fully guaranteed at $38.7 million and includes a fifth-year option.
