NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the deal. The fourth-year tight end was the subject of preseason hype heading into his contract year with the team, but a torn ACL suffered in Week 2 limited him to just two catches for seven yards on the year. Now under contract through next season, Jordan, who turns 25 next summer, will get a chance at another breakout season in 2025.

The injury will sideline Jordan for the remainder of the 2024 season. It’s a disappointing development for a player that looked to be on the rise, but now will not be able to play until 2025. Dalton Schultz will remain the starting tight end for the Texans, with Cade Stover — and potentially Irv Smith Jr. — seeing more reps along the way.

It’s unclear why Jordan was placed on injured reserve at this time. He will be required to miss at least four games but could be out longer depending on the severity of his injury. His absence will keep Dalton Schultz running a full complement of routes and could free up a few extra reps for rookie Cade Stover. The Texans also signed Irv Smith Jr. to their practice squad today.

Coming off a wild card appearance where he turned on the jets for a 76-yard touchdown, Jordan reverted to his usual form behind Dalton Schultz. Before last week’s big play, Jordan’s career-long reception was 27 yards. Now the owner of 51 catches through three seasons, Jordan hasn’t proven himself in any format of fantasy, but he is still somehow only 24 years old in July. With Schultz headed to free agency and Jordan having one year left on his rookie deal, he remains a “player to watch” despite his early-career inconsistency.
