Eagles signed S Caden Sterns, formerly of the Broncos.
Sterns was released by the Broncos last week and now has a new home in Philly. The former fifth-round pick has played in 21 games in his career while making five starts but has played in just six games over the last two seasons due to injuries. Sterns has a chance to provide some added depth to an Eagles secondary that has attempted to reconfigure itself this offseason in hopes of achieving better results than they had last year. In a corresponding move, the Eagles released linebacker Shaq Quarterman.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the Broncos intend to release Caden Stearns.
Broncos HD Sean Payton told reporters Monday that the team informed Stearns that they intend to release or trade him so that he can prepare for the situation. The 6-foot-1, 207-pound safety has flashed solid potential since being a fifth-round selection out of Texas in 2021, but he hasn’t been able to stay healthy and was limited to just five games due to a patellar tendon injury. There should be interest in Sterns on the open market.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Broncos S Caden Sterns (knee) is expected to miss the rest of the season with torn patellar tendon.
Sterns was carted from the field in the second quarter of Week 1’s loss to the Raiders, and is now expected to be done for the season. The third-year safety was expected to step into a bigger role heading into this season, and has four interceptions in 21 career games.
Caden Sterns (knee) was carted off the field in the second quarter of the Broncos’ Week 1 game against the Raiders.
Sterns departed early in the second quarter and was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game with a knee injury. He will undergo further testing before a diagnosis is made.
