Bengals placed K Evan McPherson (groin) on injured reserve.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo previously reported that McPherson’s injury wasn’t considered season-ending and that he didn’t need surgery. While that may technically be true, the Bengals are all but out of the playoff picture and McPherson will only be eligible to return for a likely meaningless Week 18 contest. Cade York should get to close out the year as Cincy’s kicker.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports Bengals K Evan McPherson will miss “a few weeks” with a groin injury.
Per Garafolo, McPherson doesn’t need surgery and it’s not a season-ending injury, but McPherson will miss “some time.” The Bengals worked out a few veteran kickers today and landed on Cade York as a temporary replacement for McPherson. Normally an ace kicker, McPherson has struggled this year en route to a 73 percent hit rate on his field goals compared to 84 percent last year. The majority of his misses have come from 50 or more yards out.
Bengals signed K Evan McPherson to a three-year, $16.5 million extension.
It’s a nice payday for the man known as “Money Mac.” McPherson will earn $10 million in new money in the first year of his new deal, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, and is now under contract through the 2027 season. During his three years with the Bengals, McPherson has converted on 78 of his 83 field goal attempts and is 21-of-28 on kicks from 50-plus yards.
Bengals K Evan McPherson (groin) practiced in full Thursday.
He was limited on Wednesday with an injury on his kicking side, but this full practice put him on track to face the Ravens. He will be an elite option in a game that should be a shootout.
