Commanders coach Dan Quinn said RG Sam Cosmi suffered a torn ACL in Saturday’s win over the Lions and is out for the season.
Brutal. Lost in the sauce of Washington’s return to the NFC Championship Game was the early loss of Cosmi, who was confirmed to have suffered a torn ACL on Sunday. The fourth-year guard has been a staple along The Commanders’ offensive line, starting in 49-of-57 career games while appearing in all 17 regular season games in each of the last two seasons. Cosmi signed a four-year extension with the Commanders this offseason and will now look to rehab ahead of the 2025 campaign. There’s a good chance his recovery will stretch into the early portion of next season.
Commanders RG Sam Cosmi is “almost certainly” out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Cosmi had his leg rolled up on Brian Robinson’s touchdown early in the second quarter of Washington’s 45-31 division round upset of the Lions. The 25-year-old guard, who started all 18 games for the Commanders this season, was ruled out for the game at halftime. According to Rapoport, Cosmi is set for an MRI Saturday, but cites sources as describing the injury as “potentially serious” and that it appears he’s “almost certainly” out for the rest of the season.
Commanders RG Sam Cosmi (knee) is questionable to return in the Divisional Round against the Lions.
Cosmi had his leg rolled up on while blocking for a Brian Robinson touchdown. He went down in pain and needed the help of trainers to limp off the field. Cosmi has started all 18 games for the Commanders this year.
Commanders RG Sam Cosmi (Achilles) did not practice Wednesday.
Cosmi signed a four-year extension with the Commanders just before the start of the season and kept that momentum going into the first month of football. Pro Football Focus has him ranked as a top-15 guard through three games. Per their charting, he has allowed four pressures and no sacks on 109 pass-blocking reps. Losing Cosmi would likely lead to more pressured dropbacks for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. That would hurt his passing output, though an increase in scrambles may ultimately offset the slight passing decrease.
