2024 Player Outlook
Palmer had the opportunity to take on a big role in 2023 with Mike Williams going down after game three with a torn ACL and for the most part he took advantage of the opportunities but he too dealt with injuries that limited him to just 10 games. The 2024 season brings a new look to the Chargers offense with Jim Harbaugh coming back to the NFL, Greg Roman the new offensive coordinator, Keenan Allen now in Chicago and Mike Williams now in New York. What this means is that Palmer is setting up to be the number one receiver for the Chargers this season. Now, he will have competition as the Chargers used a second round pick on Ladd McConkey and the still have last years first round pick Quentin Johnston who some are hopeful will take a step forward this year. Justin Herbert is still the QB and we know he is a good passer so Palmer should have the opportunities early on to contribute but he is not a game breaker, more of a possession receiver so his upside feels rather limited.
Player News
Bills agreed to terms with WR Joshua Palmer, formerly of the Chargers, on a three-year, $36 million contract.
Chargers declared QB Easton Stick, WR Joshua Palmer, RB Kimani Vidal, RB Jaret Patterson, OT Trey Pipkins III, TE Hayden Hurst, and DL Justin Eboigbe inactive for the Wildcard Round against the Texans.
Palmer had been ruled out earlier in the week, leaving the biggest surprise tight end Hayden Hurst. Hurst began the season as the lead tight end before suffering injuries that forced him to miss eight of the team’s final 13 games. Will Dissly took over as the primary tight end in Hurst’s absence and never relinquished the role, backed up by both Tucker Fisk and Stone Smartt.
Joshua Palmer (foot) won’t play in the Chargers AFC Wild Card Game against the Texans.
Palmer missed Week 18’s game against the Raiders with the same injury and could not get on the practice field this week. Palmer has caught 39 passes for 584 yards and one touchdown this season, and will now look to get right for the divisional round should the Chargers advance past the Texans on Saturday.
Joshua Palmer (heel) did not practice on Wednesday.
The Chargers’ wide receiver corps is fairly banged up at this point and Palmer’s total inability to practice thus far this week makes him the least likely to suit up on Saturday. It could come down to a game-time decision but his Thursday availability should give us an idea of his status.
