Cardinals signed EDGE Zaven Collins to a two-year, $14 million contract extension.
The deal includes $11.25 million in guaranteed money. The former first-round pick has yet to fully live up to his No. 16 overall selection, with the timing of the extension hinting more at necessity than a true fit schematically. Arizona previously declined his fifth-year option but chose to extend him for two years the day after BJ Ojulari suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury. Either way, look for Collins to see his snap rate increase dramatically off the edge.
Cardinals declined the fifth-year option on LB Zaven Collins.
The former first-round linebacker heads into the final season of his rookie contract potentially playing for his next deal. Collins was once a fixture in the Cardinals’ defense but saw his snap rate almost cut in half in 2023, the first season with head coach Jonathan Gannon and his unique 3-4, shallow two-high scheme. Collins’ potential departure after the 2024 season could open up additional snaps for 2023 second-round linebacker BJ Ojulari.
Cardinals declared LB Zaven Collins, DL Zach Allen, WR Robbie Anderson, RB James Conner, CB Antonio Hamilton, WR DeAndre Hopkins, QB Colt McCoy, OL Lecitus Smith, and CB Marco Wilson inactive for Week 18 against the 49ers.
Collins will miss Week 18 with a calf injury. His second NFL season ends with 100 total tackles, two sacks, and an interception. He will look to improve on those numbers and live up to his first-round hype next year.
Cardinals LB Zaven Collins was forced from Arizona's Week 8 game against the Packers with a shoulder injury and will not return.
The No. 16 overall pick went down in the first half and was ruled out after the break. Collins has been playing 30ish weekly snaps and mixing in for a few nice plays.
