The Lions waived Fromm and fellow QB Nate Sudfeld, keeping their quarterback room to just Jared Goff and Hendon Hooker. Lions also waived/released CB Essang Bassey, WR Daurice Fountain, CB Javelin Guidry, LB Joel Iyiegbuniwe, OT Jamarco Jones, WR Tom Kennedy, TE Sean McKeon, S C.J. Moore, DL Pat O’Connor, DL Kyle Peko, WR Donovan Peoples-Jones, LB Ty Summers, LB Mitchell Agude, WR Maurice Alexander, LB Abraham Beauplan, DL Mathieu Betts, OG Jake Burton, WR Jalon Calhoun, OL Duke Clemens, LS Scott Daly, WR Kaden Davis, C Kingsley Eguakun, RB Jake Funk, S Chelen Garnes, CB Steven Gilmore, C Bryan Hudson, RB Jermar Jefferson, RB Zonovan Knight, TE James Mitchell, DL Chris Smith, DL Isaac Ukwu, CB Rachad Wildgoose, and TE Shane Zylstra and DL David Bada.

Fromm is a career backup who was let go by the Commanders at the end of the 2023 preseason. He’s attempted 60 passes in his career while throwing for 210-1-3 and completing 45 percent of those attempts. In the event he signs with the Packers, it’s likely as little more than a camp body. He would have a chance to compete with Michael Pratt for the QB3 spot on the depth chart, but wouldn’t be expected to make the roster.

It was a quick stay in Washington for Fromm, who hasn’t seen regular season action since 2021 with the Giants. The late-round 2020 draft pick will likely continue bouncing around as a QB3 option in the NFL.

Fromm was pushing to win the third quarterback job after a strong preseason. The former Georgia Bulldog threw for 262 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while completing 68.3 percent of his passes, but the Commanders will roll into Week 1 with Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett as their two quarterbacks. It’s possible Fromm will end up back on the practice squad after a strong preseason. The Commanders also cut RB Derrick Gore and CB Tariq Castro-Fields.
