The Buccaneers are signing WR Cody Thompson, formerly of the Seahawks.
Thompson has spent the last four season with the Seahawks, contributing mainly on special teams and splitting time between the active roster and practice squad. He made his first career catch last season for ten yards, but was seldom used offensively. The Buccaneers had waived receiver and special-teamer Deven Thompkins with an injury designation last week and now replace him with Thompson.
Seahawks declared WR Cody Thompson, CB Kyu Blu Kelly, LB Drake Thomas, G Phil Haynes, OT McClendon Curtis, and OT Raiqwon O’Neal inactive for Week 8 agains the Browns.
Running back Kenneth Walker and wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett will all play after popping on the team’s injury report at various points this week. The Seahawks could need all hands on deck against one of the top defenses in the league through seven weeks.
Thompson signed a reserve/future contract with the Seahawks on Tuesday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
The 24-year-old spent a week on Seattle's practice squad in the middle of the season and then rejoined the unit prior to the divisional-round loss in Green Bay. Thompson went undrafted out of Toledo in the spring and is still looking to make his NFL debut.
Thompson signed with the Seahawks' practice squad Wednesday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports.
The undrafted rookie out of Toledo spent a week on Seattle's practice roster earlier in the season, but the Seahawks could use depth again since Malik Turner (concussion) and Jaron Brown (knee) are battling injuries. If Thompson's promoted before Sunday's divisional-round matchup versus the Packers, he'll likely work in a special-teams role.
