Blanton had played just 25 snaps for the team since signing in late September. The Rams have barely used sets with two tight ends this year and he was behind Brycen Hopkins for work in those. 

The reunion that has been months -- no, about exactly a month -- in the making. The Rams lost Blanton on waivers after preseason Week 2. He'd been hanging out on the Chiefs practice squad after being released by Washington. Now that he's back with the Rams, he'll function as depth behind Tyler Higbee. 

It was a short stay for Blanton in Washington, as the Commanders claimed the veteran off waivers on August 21. His release could signal a positive development for Logan Thomas' early-season availability after a horrific 2021 knee injury. 

Blanton started in the Super Bowl in February, and nearly seven months later is looking to settle as solid depth on the Commanders. With Logan Thomas still on PUP and three rookies on the current depth chart, two of whom weren't drafted, it seems plausible that Blanton can make the Commanders 53-man roster.
