Cardinals signed CB Rashad Fenton, formerly of the Falcons, to a one-year contract.
After being acquired by the Falcons at the trade deadline for a conditional seventh-round pick, Fenton played just 66 defensive snaps for the Falcons in two games. Fenton has a history as a starter and is a decent low-risk gamble for the Cardinals, but he isn't exactly an inspiring replacement for Byron Murphy.
Falcons acquired CB Rashad Fenton from the Chiefs for a conditional seventh-round pick.
Fenton had played 74% of the snaps in every game from Week 1 to Week 5 and had 500+ defensive snaps in each of the last two seasons for Kansas City, but he was replaced by their youth at cornerback. The Falcons, badly in need of depth at the position with Casey Hayward and A.J. Terrell dealing with injuries, get someone with some actual experience to help bolster the position. This reads like a decent move for Atlanta, though Fenton is a pure rental as he's in the final season of his rookie deal.
Fenton notched 15 tackles (11 solo), four defended passes, one interception and one forced fumble across 12 regular-season games in 2019.
Fenton also had 10 tackles, one sack and one defended pass in three postseason appearances. While the 2019 sixth-round pick only managed to accrue modest numbers while playing a reserve role in Kansas City's linebacker corps, the fact that he performed well in coverage bodes well for his future with the team. He'll work to further his development this offseason.
Fenton (hamstring) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Fenton has missed two straight contests due to a lingering hamstring injury, but he now appears back to full health. The rookie sixth-round pick is on track to reprise his usual depth role during Sunday's tilt against the Bears.
