Seahawks waived LB Ben Burr-Kirven.
He was waived with a failed physical designation. Burr-Kirven was working as a starter last August before suffering a torn ACL. It looks like his recovery from that injury has not been smooth. A fifth-round pick in 2019, Burr-Kirven should get looks on the open market if his knee is healthy.
Seahawks LB Ben Burr-Kirven tore his ACL and his miss the 2021 season.
The 2019 fifth-round pick was working the Seattle's starting defense and was expected to begin the regular season as a starter. Burr-Kirven has a long injury history; he required sports hernia surgery in 2019. He's expected to miss the entire 2021 season.
Burr-Kirven made eight special-teams tackles over 16 regular-season games in 2019.
The Seahawks selected Burr-Kirven in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and he made the team out of training camp. The 22-year-old was buried on the defensive depth chart, but he managed to make an impact by ranking second on the team behind rookie Ugo Amadi in special-teams tackles. Burr-Kirven will vie for additional defensive reps in 2020 if the team doesn't retain Mychal Kendricks (knee), but he faces an uphill battle since rookie Cody Barton showed versatility and made four starts this year.
Burr-Kirven made the Seahawks' 53-man roster, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
The Seahawks picked Burr-Kirven in the fifth round of April's draft, and he had an outstanding preseason to make the initial roster. While he outplayed Shaquem Griffin (knee) through preseason, he's still behind Jadeveon Clowney, K.J. Wright and Mychal Kendricks on the depth chart. Expect the Seahawks to give him situational work on defense while letting him maintain a role on special teams.
