Colts waived/injured WR Gary Jennings.
Jennings will revert to IR if he clears waivers. The Colts signed TE Graham Adomitis to replace Jennings on the 90-man roster.
Dolphins waived WR Gary Jennings.
Jennings was initially in the running for the Dolphins' No. 5 receiver spot. His release bodes especially poorly for his future since it comes after Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson opted out of the 2020 season. If Jennings can't make this receiver corps, he is going to be up against it anywhere.
The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson suggests WR Gary Jennings will compete with Allen Hurns and Isaiah Ford for the fifth and sixth receiver jobs.
Jennings was claimed by the Dolphins off waivers from the Seahawks in November but was injured in his first game with Miami. He's currently learning the intricacies of playing from the slot, where the team envisions his 6'1/214 frame coming in handy to create mismatches on smaller, slower players. DeVante Parker, second-year UDFA Preston Williams, and Albert Wilson are still expected to man Miami's three-wide sets in their season opener against the Patriots.
The Dolphins will place Jennings (shoulder) on injured reserve Wednesday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Jennings reportedly injured his shoulder while celebrating Jakeem Grant's kick-return touchdown during the Dolphins' 37-20 loss to the Bills in Week 11. The rookie made his first regular-season NFL appearance in that contest, finishing with just one snap on offense and eight on special teams. The fourth-round pick was a healthy scratch as a member of the Seahawks throughout September and October, eventually landing in Miami after Seattle waived him Nov. 5. Jennings should be back with the Dolphins next year to battle for a roster spot.
