Texans acquired S C.J. Gardner-Johnson and a sixth-round pick from the Eagles in exchange for OG Kenyon Green and a fifth-round pick.
Both picks won’t land until the 2026 NFL Draft. Gardner-Johnson started 20 games for the Eagles including the postseason. He played well in his return to Philly and totaled 12 pass breakups and six interceptions, one of which was a pick-six. Still, the Eagles had some hard decisions to make with their cap and CJGJ was a possible cap casualty before this deal materialized. Now Gardner-Johnson locks up a starting spot in Houston and the Eagles get a former first-round pick in Green.
Eagles CB C.J. Gardner-Johnson (concussion evaluation) left Philadelphia’s Week 14 game against the Panthers.
He was hit by friendly fire on a tackle and immediately displayed the fencing reaction. Gardner-Johnson’s brain injury further depletes Philadelphia’s safety depth, Avonte Maddox came in to replace Gardner-Johnson.
Eagles S C.J. Gardner-Johnson (foot) is active for Week 3 against the Saints.
A.J. Brown is the only Philly player inactive because of an injury this week and he was ruled out on Friday. Gardner-Johnson was added to the injury report on Thursday as a DNP. He also missed Friday’s session before being listed as questionable. It’s possible he plays on a pitch count this week. Inactive for the Eagles are LB Devin White, CB Eli Ricks, DT Byron Young, OL Trevor Keegan, OL Darian Kinnard, and QB Tanner McKee.
Eagles S C.J. Gardner-Johnson is expected to miss some time with a shoulder injury.
We don’t have a clear timeline for Gardner-Johnson’s injury, but according to Eagles beat writer Jeff McClane, it is not considered long-term. The veteran safety appeared in just three games for the Lions last season after suffering a torn pectoral muscle in Week 2 against the Seahawks, but returned in Week 18 and played in all three of the Lions’ postseason contests. Now back with the Eagles, Gardner-Johnson is expected to anchor the team’s secondary alongside safety Reed Blankenship. At this time, it doesn’t sound like he’s at risk of missing any regular season games.
