Jackson was acquired just before the start of the 2024 regular season in a trade with the Seahawks and now remains with the Panthers on a new two-year deal. He played all but 13 defensive snaps for the Panthers a season ago and should remain the team’s top perimeter cornerback option moving forward.

Jackson has appeared in 34 games for the Seahawks over the last two seasons while making 21 starts. The fifth-year corner earned a PFF coverage grade of 76.9 while playing on 474 defensive snaps last season and provides nice depth for a Panthers secondary that is in need of help. In return, the Seahawks get rookie linebacker Michael Barrett, who the Panthers selected in the seventh round of this year’s draft. Barrett has totaled two tackles this preseason and will likely contribute on special teams to start.

The trade came hours after the Lions announced they would cut Jackson, who played in just one game for Detroit in 2019. Jackson was drafted by Dallas in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft. 

Jackson was drafted during the fifth round by the Cowboys in April but failed to make the season-opening roster and has since been on the team's practice squad. The 22-year-old should provide secondary depth for the Lions with Tracy Walker (knee), Darius Slay (hamstring) and Amani Oruwariye (knee) dealing with injuries.
