Former Bills and Patriots RB Damien Harris announced his retirement from the NFL.
Harris’ five-year NFL career ends after recording 2,188 rushing yards, 297 receiving yards, and 21 total touchdowns with the Patriots and Bills. He started 34 games in 44 appearances with all 34 starts occurring between 2020 and 2023 while with the Patriots. Harris ended his announcement by saying, “Today I am grateful I have found the strength to walk away from the game I love so much.” The Bills move forward with a running back cadre of James Cook, Ty Johnson, and Darrynton Evans.
Damien Harris (neck) is out for Week 7 against the Patriots.
Harris was taken off the field by ambulance in Week 6 after suffering a frightening head/neck injury. He would seem to miss extended time, though the team hasn’t said so yet. James Cook and Latavius Murray will continuing splitting backfield duties, with Murray seeing much of the green zone work.
Damien Harris (concussion/neck) did not practice on Thursday.
The Bills haven’t officially taken the field for Thursday’s practice, but head coach Sean McDermott announced ahead of time that Harris would be a DNP for the second-straight day. It seems unlikely Harris, who was carted off the field with a neck injury last week, will play in Week 7 barring any unexpected developments. In addition to his neck injury, he also needs to clear concussion protocol if he’s to have any chance of playing.
Damien Harris (concussion/neck) did not practice Wednesday.
No surprises here as Harris went down with a scary injury in Week 6. He was forced to be taken off the field and to a hospital in an ambulance on Sunday night. Testing only revealed a neck injury and a concussion. He is now in the league’s concussion protocol. It might be a few weeks before we see Harris back in action, but it’s safe to assume he will be back this season.
