2024 Player Outlook

2023 was more of the same out of Metcalf as he finishes as a WR2 in PPR formats. A big downfield presence, Metcalf finished with 66 catches for 1,114 yards and eight touchdowns last year over 16 games. Yes, we've been teased by better seasons in the past, like his 1,300 yard - 10 touchdown season from 2020 or even his 2022 season where he caught 90 balls. Either way, you should be able to bank on 1,000+ yards and close to 10 touchdowns from Metcalf. Is that enough? Knowing he has the upside for more along with a relatively safe floor, has me comfortable enough to draft him at ADP.

Steelers acquired WR DK Metcalf from the Seahawks in exchange for a second-round pick.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal also includes a Day 3 pick swap with an exchange of sixth- and seventh-rounders. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the trade includes a new five-year, $150 million contract for the disgruntled wideout. It’s not the warm weather location Metcalf sought, while the Steelers are also questionable as a contender at this point. There’s also the enormous question of who will be at quarterback. A Metcalf reunion with Russell Wilson wouldn’t exactly be the most exciting fantasy development, though he did have his best season with Russ in 2020. Metcalf is also similar to George Pickens in that he primarily excels down-field. Regardless of who is under center, the Steelers are going to be lethal deep, and more questionable underneath. For now in fantasy, Metcalf remains in the volatile WR2 ranger where he finished in 2024.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reports DK Metcalf was “said to be eyeing Houston” as a potential trade suitor.

The Texans just sent a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Jaguars in exchange for Christian Kirk, but Kirk and Metcalf play entirely different roles. It’s hard to imagine the trade for Kirk forcing the Texans off trading for a receiver of Metcalf’s caliber, but whether or not the team is interested in his services is another subject entirely. The Texans likely have the draft capital to get a trade done, and also have roughly $5.3 million in cap space, which is a good start for a team that may be looking to do a deal. Metcalf reportedly wants to play in a warm climate and for a contender, two requirements the Texans also meet. For now, this is nothing more than something to remember as trade rumors heat up, but things could start moving faster as free agency gets started.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports the Seahawks are “open to a return centered around a second-round pick” for DK Metcalf.

After initially requesting a first and third-round pick for the two-time Pro Bowler, the Seahawks are now open to lowering their asking price for Metcalf. The Seahawks have reportedly spoken to a “ton of teams” about a Metcalf trade, but the initial asking price was likely too high — as many expected. We also can’t ignore the fact that Metcalf is looking for a new contract that would put him in the neighborhood of earning $30 million per year, which could further complicate trade talks. The Seahawks’ willingness to lower their asking price suggests they are legitimately open to dealing Metcalf, who “wants to play in a warm weather climate,” per Russini. We’ll see if this new asking price leads to a deal for a team that is setting up to have a drastically different offense in 2025 after trading releasing Tyler Lockett and trading Geno Smith over the last week.
