The Athletic’s Nate Taylor believes the odds of RT Jawaan Taylor being on Kansas City’s roster in 2026 are not high.

Taylor forecasts that cutting Taylor (sorry) could save the Chiefs $20 million against the cap if they release him in 2026. Lavished with a huge contract prior to the 2023 season, Taylor has produced PFF grades of 49.8 and 60.1 over his two years with the Chiefs so far. It wouldn’t at all be surprising if the Chiefs decided — barring a big year — that the right tackle wasn’t worth a $27.3 million cap hit in 2026. Taylor brings this up in the context of the Chiefs drafting a tackle in a mock draft, which would set Kansas City up with an obvious succession plan at right tackle.

Chiefs RT Jawaan Taylor (knee) left Kansas City’s Week 16 game against the Texans and is questionable to return.

Wanya Morris was warming up to take over at right tackle. The Texans-Chiefs game has been brutal so far on injuries, and the last thing the Chiefs need with their protection issues is any missed time for Taylor.

Chiefs signed OT Jawaan Taylor, formerly of the Jaguars, to a four-year, $80 million contract.

Shortly after Taylor's deal was announced, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Chiefs "are moving on from Orlando Brown". The Jaguars reportedly wanted to retain Taylor, who has occupied their right tackle position for the last four seasons. A former second-round pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, Taylor's contract would have been among the most valuable in the league for a right tackle. However, NFL Network's James Palmer reports Taylor will play left tackle. The position shift makes Taylor's contract far more palatable. With right tackle Andrew Wylie also gone in free agency, the Chiefs still have one tackle spot to fill this offseason.

Jaguars GM Trent Baalke said bringing back RT Jawaan Taylor is "something we'd like to do."

Taylor reportedly is looking for $15 million a season per a February report from Field Yates. The Jaguars already have Cam Robinson at left tackle and spent a second-round pick on backup Walker Little. So the fact that they are trying to keep Taylor is a bit of an eye-opener. It's possible one of the other two tackles gets moved this offseason if the Jaguars retain Taylor.
