Dolphins re-signed LB Samuel Eguavoen to a one-year, $2 million contract.
The deal includes $800K in guarantees. Eguavoen played over half of his snaps on special teams last year, tallying 16 combined tackles. He was credited with half a sack in 2021 and scored a touchdown on the team's final play of the season by intercepting a desperate lateral attempt against New England in Week 18 a few feet from the end zone. He will continue playing a significant role on special teams while mixing in for some snaps on defense in 2022.
Eguavoen had 42 tackles (22 solo), 3.5 sacks and one defended pass across 16 games in 2019.
Eguavoen also recovered one fumble. The 26-year-old had spent his time in the CFL since going undrafted in 2014, but he managed to make his NFL debut in 2019 and carve out a consistent role with the Dolphins. Still, he won't possess much IDP value as long as he's limited to a depth role.
Eguavoen recorded four solo tackles and one sack during Sunday's 37-31 win over the Eagles.
Eguavoen now has 2.5 sacks across 12 contests. The 26-year-old remains secure in his role as a starting linebacker for Miami, but his IDP value is capped due to a lack of weekly consistency as a pass rusher or run stopper.
Eguavoen tallied four solo tackles and a sack in Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Steelers.
Eguavoen now has 1.5 sacks through seven games, and he ranks fourth on his team with 27 stops on the season. The Texas Tech product didn't suit up in the NFL for four years following college, but he's certainly making an impact with the Dolphins so far.
