Panthers re-signed S Sean Chandler to a one-year contract.
Chandler has primarily been a special teamer throughout his career, but he ended up starting seven games and playing 539 snaps on defense for the Panthers last year. Carolina added S Xavier Woods on Monday, making it unlikely Chandler is returning to a starting job this season, but he could get some rotational snaps along with his special teams role.
Chandler was promoted to the Giants' 53-man roster Saturday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Chandler made New York's season-opening roster and primarily played special teams through the first nine games before being waived and joining the practice squad. The 23-year-old figures to fill a similar role down the stretch for the Giants.
Chandler was waived by the Giants on Tuesday.
The team had to make room to activate Sam Beal (hamstring) off of IR, and Chandler was the roster casualty. The 23-year-old notched five tackles (two solo) over nine games in mostly a special-teams role for the Giants.
