Steelers signed DT Daniel Ekuale, formerly of the Patriots, to a contract.
The talented run-stuffer racked up 36 tackles last season, five of which were for a loss or no gain. Both figures are career-highs. He tacked on nine quarterback pressures and two sacks as well. This is a smart signing for the Steelers.
Ekuale was placed on injured reserve Friday with a calf injury.
Ekuale recently returned from a concussion, but he's now likely to be sidelined for the rest of the season with the calf issue. Eli Ankou signed with the Browns last week and figures to fill Ekuale's rotational role at defensive tackle.
Ekuale (concussion) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Ekuale appears to have made substantial progress in his recovery from a concussion during Cleveland's bye. The rotational defensive tackle will need to fully clear the league's protocol for head injuries before retaking the field, but he appears to be trending towards playing Sunday versus New England.
Ekuale (concussion) is participating in Monday's practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Ekuale entered Cleveland's bye nursing a concussion, and he's progressing through the league's protocol for head injuries. It appears as though the rotational defensive tackle has a shot to suit up Week 8 versus the Patriots, though he'll first need to receive clearance from an independent neurologist.
