Patriots released CB J.C. Jackson.

Jackson has played in just 15 games over the last two seasons and was in the midst of his second stint with the Patriots. During his first four years with the Patriots, Jackson appeared in 62 games while totaling 25 interceptions and earning a Second-Team All-Pro nod in 2021. Jackson signed a five-year, $82.5 million contract with the Chargers during the 2022 offseason but was limited to just five games due to injuries. He was benched in Week 6 of last season against the Broncos and traded to the Patriots soon after. At 28-years-old, Jackson should have a decent market as a once-proven-talent, but may need to prove he can still play on a one-year deal next season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Patriots CB J.C. Jackson was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list.

Jackson had dealt with his fair share of struggles this season, starting off with the Chargers and getting traded back to the Patriots. He struggled to get back on track to his former self, getting benched and missing time throughout the season. The Patriots choose to place him on the reserve/non-football illness list, likely ending his season.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reports Patriots CB J.C. Jackson won’t join the team on their trip to Germany for Week 10.

Jackson was benched for some of the team’s Week 9 loss to Washington after showing up late on Saturday at the Patriots hotel. Jackson, who re-joined the Patriots after a failed tenure with the Chargers, has long struggled with what Breer called “reliability issues.” This has clearly drawn the ire of disciplinarian Bill Belichick. Jackson is expected to return to the team following their Week 11 bye. New England’s defense has been graded by PFF as this year’s 16th best coverage unit.
