Lions promoted Shaun Dion Hamilton to LB coach.
The former linebacker joined the Detroit coaching staff for the 2022 season after playing his final season in the league with the franchise a year prior. He quickly ascended the coaching ranks, most recently serving as the assistant linebackers coach before getting a promotion to linebackers coach as the team continues to fill their coaching vacancies from within. Now just 29 years old, Hamilton has the opportunity to continue his meteoric rise in the coaching ranks as he heads into the 2025 season with more responsibilities.
Hamilton notched 49 tackles (37 solo), one sack, two defended passes and one interception across 16 contests in 2019.
Hamilton also forced and recovered one fumble, and he contributed on special teams for Washington. The 24-year-old stands to reprise a depth role in the team's linebacker corps for 2020.
Hamilton recorded six tackles (three solo) and a sack in Sunday's 19-16 win over the Lions.
Hamilton saw a season high with 34 defensive snaps a week after playing only special teams. He also tied his season mark with six tackles and is up to 35 on the year.
Hamilton (chest) was a full practice participant Wednesday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio reports.
Hamilton suffered the chest injury during the preseason opener and did not play in another preseason game, but he appears ready to go for Week 1. The 23-year-old is expected to work as a starter at inside linebacker after totaling 27 tackles (19 solo) and 1.5 sacks during his rookie campaign.
