Browns signed EDGE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, formerly of the Texans, to a three-year, $19 million contract.
The deal includes $12.5 million guaranteed. Playing on a one-year deal for the Texans last season, the former fifth-round pick of the Rams had a career year with five sacks on just 517 snaps. Rather than hold onto their free agent find, the Texans will look for the next one, instead. Okoronkwo will probably remain a rotational player in Cleveland, but his snaps could rise into the 600-700 range.
Texans signed OLB Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, formerly of the Rams.
The Rams drafted Okoronkwo in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He failed to crack the starting lineup during his four years with the team but did take on a slightly increased role in LA last year. He notched two sacks and three TFLs while setting a career-high in snaps. He will serve as a depth option for the Texans but could play a larger role for his new team.
Rams declared OLB Ogbo Okoronkwo, RB Raymond Calais, C Brian Allen, WR Trishton Jackson, TE Brycen Hopkins inactive for Week 6 against the 49ers.
There are no surprises. The Rams are healthy going into Sunday night.
Okoronkwo notched 1.5 sacks in Sunday's 24-10 win over the Bengals in London.
The 2018 fifth-round pick made his NFL debut in Week 6, and he achieved his first major impact just two games later. The 24-year-old linebacker enjoyed a 37-percent snap share in Clay Matthews' (jaw) stead. Matthews could return following the team's Week 9 bye, however, so Okoronkwo's burst in production could take a backseat again.
