Steelers GM Omar Khan said it’s a “safe assumption” that the team will add a veteran QB this offseason.

This veteran quarterback will either be Aaron Rodgers or a vet who has not yet been discussed. The Steelers are still waiting on a decision from Rodgers, who is far and away their best veteran option now that Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston are with the Giants and Justin Fields is with the Jets. The Steelers brought back Mason Rudolph on a two-year deal earlier this offseason, but Rudolph is little more than a reliable backup at this stage in his career. He’s appeared in 29 games while making 18 starts and has a career passing line of 4,615-28-20. If Rodgers doesn’t join the Steelers, other veteran quarterbacks still available include Drew Lock, Joe Flacco, and Carson Wentz, to name a few.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Steelers are comfortable starting QB Mason Rudolph in 2025.

If the Steelers can’t land Aaron Rodgers in the coming weeks, Pelissero claims the team would be open to rolling with Rudolph in 2025. Pelissero said several key members of the Pittsburgh offense — including the mercurial George Pickens — are supportive of Rudolph, who on March 13 signed a two-year contract worth $8 million with the Steelers. Rudolph started 13 games for the Steelers in 2023, going 8-4-1 and targeting Pickens heavily throughout. He has passed for 4,615 yards with 28 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in 29 career games with the Steelers. Last season with the Titans, Rudolph was 13th out of 40 qualifying QBs in drop back success rate. He ranked 26th ouf

Steelers sign QB Mason Rudolph, formerly of the Titans, to a two-year, $8 million contract.

Rudolph returns to the team that drafted him in 2018, and will receive $4.5 million in guaranteed money. Primarily a backup in his six seasons with the Steelers, Rudolph did make 13 starts, posting an 8-4-1 record. He started Pittsburgh’s Wild Card loss to Buffalo in 2023. In his lone season with the Titans, Rudolph appeared in eight games, making five starts. He has passed for 4,615 yards with 28 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in 29 career games. It should go without saying, but the , per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Even if Rodgers doesn’t sign with Pittsburgh, it’s hard to imagine the Steelers going into Rudolph as their QB1.

Titans coach Brian Callahan said Mason Rudolph “is certainly under consideration” to be re-signed.

Rudolph has had almost no smoke on the early market, which makes sense as he didn’t exactly blow anyone’s doors off in Tennessee last season. “I would welcome him back if that was the right fit,” Callahan added. It seems more likely that Rudolph is a fallback option for the Titans with Will Levis locked into the No. 2 role due to his rookie contract. Most reports have them aiming higher than Rudolph for their starting job this offseason.
