Falcons DL Vincent Taylor ruptured his Achilles, the team announced on Tuesday.
Taylor joined the Falcons this offseason after a torn Achilles ended his 2021 campaign with the Texans. Sidelined for the 2022 season, Taylor was expected to serve as a run-stuff interior lineman for a Falcons defense that ranked fourth worst against the run last season per PFF.
Falcons signed DL Vincent Taylor, formerly of the Texans.
Taylor, known as a run stuffing interior lineman, missed almost the entire 2021 season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in Week 1. He'll join a Falcons defense graded by Pro Football Focus as the league's fourth worst run-stopping unit.
Free agent DT Vincent Taylor is visiting the Falcons on Tuesday.
Taylor is well-regarded as a run stuffer, but is coming off a season-ending torn Achilles in Week 1 with the Texans. The Falcons could use an early-downs player next to Grady Jarrett, so this could be a good fit for Taylor.
HoustonTexans.com's John Harris notes that Vincent Taylor tore his Achilles in Week 1's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Taylor went on IR with an "ankle" injury after the game and was "expected to miss 6-8 weeks," but somehow never returned all season. This explains why. Taylor will be a depth run-stuffing lineman available in free agency this year.
