Bills restructured LB Matt Milano’s contract.
The former All-Pro will take a $3 million paycut, though he can earn all of it back in incentives. This new contract will also enable Milano to be a free agent after this season with some void years tacked on afterwards. The Bills have cast their lot with Terrell Bernard as their middle linebacker of choice going into future seasons after extending him. They clearly believe Milano lost a step after his recent leg and biceps injuries that cost him all but nine games the last two seasons.
Bills GM Brandon Beane said “we expect Matt Milano back at this point.”
Milano has been marred by injuries in back-to-back seasons and has appeared in just nine regular season games since 2023 as a result. The Bills could release the eight-year vet and former First-Team All-Pro as a post-June 1 cut that would result in $9.640 million in savings while also carrying a dead cap hit just over $6.1 million, but it sounds like Milano will be running things back with the Bills in 2025. Milano will have the rest of the offseason to prepare for training camp and won’t have any additional hurdles to clear as far as surgery or rehab is concerned. If he can get back to his old form, a healthy Milano should provide a nice boost to a Bills defense that ranked 11th in the league in points allowed last season.
Bills LB Matt Milano (groin) will play in Week 17 against the Jets.
Cornerback Rasul Douglas (knee) will also be active after both players missed last week’s game against the Patriots. Safeties Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp have both been listed as questionable for the week, as have Curtis Samuel and Cam Lewis. Things appear to be trending in the right direction for the Bills as they look to get healthy ahead of the playoffs, with several key defensive starters on the mend.
Matt Milano is questionable to return to Week 15 against the Lions with a groin injury.
Milano injuried his groin in the fourth quarter and will be replaced by Baylon Spector since Milano’s usual back-up Dorian Williams also hurt his elbow in his game. Milano just returned from a partially torn bicep two weeks ago and has been shaking off the rust. The Bills will hope this new injury isn’t serious becuase they need Milano to get back to his usual self if their run defense is going to improve.
