Giants released WR Cody Core.
This move saves the team $2 million in cap space. Currently rehabbing a torn Achilles' that forced him to miss the entirety of last season, it's still possible the Giants re-sign Core to a team-friendly deal in free agency. The organization will at the very least dodge the $500,000 roster bonus he was due on March 20.
Giants re-signed WR Cody Core.
A deep reserve wideout, Core caught three passes after being claimed off waivers from the Bengals before Week 1. His primary duties are on special teams.
Core secured three of five targets for 28 yards across 16 contests in 2019.
Core did most of his damage on special teams in 2019, as per usual. Coming off the final year of his rookie contract, it remains to be seen if the Giants will opt to bring Core back for 2020.
Core didn't receive a target in Monday's 37-18 loss to the Cowboys.
Core endured a seventh straight week without a target, and he's logged just eight offensive snaps over the last four games. Even with Sterling Shepard (concussion) on the mend, Core's value remains on special teams.
