Packers re-signed S Will Redmond.
The Packers' No. 3 safety last season, 26-year-old Redmond made four starts. The No. 68 overall pick of the 2016 draft has salvaged what was looking like a lost career, but he is not a future starter.
Redmond recorded 36 tackles and a pass breakup over 13 regular-season games in 2019.
Redmond made four starts this year while Darnell Savage battled an ankle injury, but the emergence of Chandon Sullivan forced Redmond to the bench on defense late in the season, as he didn't record a defensive snap after Week 10. The 26-year-old Redmond did play in the NFC championship due to injury as well. He has a long way to go in terms of pass coverage, so he'll likely need to carve out a special-teams role in 2020 if the Packers retain him. Redmond will be an exclusive-rights free agent in March.
Redmond (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
Redmond missed the season finale with a hamstring injury, but he leveraged the bye week to get back to full health. The 26-year-old didn't play a defensive snap over the last three games he played, so he likely won't get many postseason opportunities, barring injury, especially if Raven Greene (ankle) returns from IR.
Redmond (hamstring) won't play in Sunday's regular season finale against the Lions, Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.
Redmond was deemed doubtful after he was a non-participant at practice all week, so this news isn't surprising. With the veteran sidelined for Week 17, Ibraheim Campbell is the only healthy depth safety on the roster.
