Commanders re-signed EDGE Efe Obada.
Obada appeared in three games as a rotational pass-rusher for the Commanders last year. He suffered multiple fractures in his lower leg in Week 11 and missed the remainder of the season. Re-signing Obada this early in the offseason suggests the Commanders are comfortable with how his recovery is progressing. He should be back for a part-time role in 2024.
The Athletic’s Ben Standig reports Commanders EDGE Efe Obada underwent surgery to “address multiple lower leg fractures” on Sunday.
The team hasn’t confirmed it, but this will likely be a season-ender for Obada, who is set to hit free agency in 2024. The 31-year-old pass rusher was carted off in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Giants and was ruled out soon after. Obada has 15 career sacks over six seasons and will likely compete for a roster spot on a team next season.
Commanders EDGE Efe Obada (leg) was carted off the field in the first quarter of Week 11’s contest against the Giants.
According to the sideline report, it’s a fractured leg for Obada. Obada saw his leg rolled up on on the first offensive drive of the game and remained down on the field until the cart came out. Things didn’t look good on the replay, and the sideline report all but confirmed the worst. Obada has played in four games this season and tallied two tackles, There’s a good chance this is the last we see of him until 2024.
Commanders declared DE Efe Obada, CB Christian Holmes, DE K.J. Henry, OT Trent Scott, OG Chris Paul, TE Curtis Hodges, and WR Mitchell Tinsley inactive for Week 7 against the Giants.
Nothing of note to see here, as all fantasy relevant players for the Commanders are available in their divisional matchup against the Giants.
