Panthers signed DT DeShawn Williams, formerly of the Broncos.
Williams played under Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero in Denver last year. He appeared in all 17 games, 15 of which were starts. Williams tallied 4.5 sacks and four TFLs. The fifth-year tackle should slot into a starting role based on his experience in Evero's 3-4 scheme.
Broncos re-signed DT DeShawn Williams to a one-year contract.
Williams enters his age-30 season with Denver after the team didn't tender him as a restricted free agent. A mainstay on the Broncos defensive line, Williams will rejoin a Denver defense graded by Pro Football Focus as the NFL's eighth best against the run.
The Broncos did not tender restricted free agent DT DeShawn Williams, making him a free agent.
Williams played roughly 400 snaps each of the past two seasons. His problem is that 2022 will be his age-30 campaign. His ceiling for the upcoming year will be featuring on the workout circuit.
Williams signed a contract with the Broncos on Monday, Zac Stevens of BSNDenver.com reports.
Williams has not played a snap in the NFL since 2016, but spent time with the Dolphins and Colts last season in addition to Denver's practice squad during the offseason. The 6-foot-1, 284-pound defensive lineman's quickness could make him a suitable interior depth piece.
