Texans re-signed LB Neville Hewitt to a one-year contract.
Hewitt doesn’t play much on defense these days but is a key contributor on special teams. Per Pro Football Focus, he finished top-10 in special teams snaps in 2023. Hewitt also totaled 14 tackles last year. He will return to a similar role in 2024 but could step into a larger role on defense if needed.

It's Hewitt's third one-year deal in Houston. Hewitt appeared in 14 games last year but only logged 23 defensive snaps. He did, however, appear on 81 percent of the team's special teams snaps when he was active. Hewitt will likely return for a similar role in 2023.

Hewitt spent last season with the Texans, totaling 60 tackles and one tackle for a loss. It was a steep drop off from the 2020 season he had with the Jets, in which he totaled 134 tackles, six tackles for a loss and two sacks. Hewitt played sparingly on defense for the Texans in his first year with the team, appearing on just 325 defensive snaps per PFF.com, his fewest since 2018.

Hewitt started in place of C.J. Mosley for the Jets the last two years. He's coming off a career 2020, posting 134 tackles, six TFLs, and two sacks. Hewitt will compete with Christian Kirksey and Kamu Grugier-Hill to start at the Mike spot.
