Seahawks signed EDGE Frank Clark, formerly of the Broncos.
Clark will immediately join the Seahawks’ 53-man roster upon passing a physical. Clark was signed by the Broncos in the offseason after the Chiefs cut him to get rid of his bloated contract. Things didn’t work out in Denver and he was released after no team wanted to trade for him despite Clark agreeing to a pay cut. He visited with the Chiefs, but a different reunion ultimately materialized. Clark spent the first four years of his career in Seattle and now returns to provide an immediate boost to a pass-rush that just lost Uchenna Nwosu to a season-ending injury.
Broncos sign EDGE Frank Clark, formerly of the Chiefs, to a one-year, $5.5 million contract that can be worth up to $7.5 million.
Clark was released in early March and had not taken any public visits that we were aware of this offseason. He had five sacks last year in 15 starts, but made Pro Bowls in each of his three prior seasons in Kansas City. He'll likely be in on passing downs at the very least with the Broncos, and has a chance to start at EDGE.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs are expected to release EDGE Frank Clark.
The Chiefs were hoping to re-work Clark's contract but were unable to come to terms on a new deal. While they'll be hit with a $7.675 million hit in dead cap money, the Chiefs will also save $21 million in cap space with the release of Clark, who will be 30 at the start of next season. Clark ranks third in NFL history in postseason sacks and has been named to the Pro Bowl in three of his four seasons with the team. Even with his best days likely behind him, Clark should still garner some interest as a pass rusher after totaling 45 pressures and five sacks last season.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid describes Frank Clark's Week 18 injury as a "minor groin strain."
"He should be able to return after a little bit of rest," Reid said. The Chiefs now have a "little bit of rest" after clinching the AFC's No. 1 seed on Saturday. It would seem Clark will be ready for the Divisional Round. Star-crossed Clark's five sacks were tied for third on the Chiefs this season. He has struggled to be a difference maker since arriving from Seattle, but the Chiefs would certainly like him around for their latest Super Bowl run.
