Ryan Mallett's play was erratic during the offseason program.

Mallett's play was erratic for Houston too last season which is in part why he was cut from the team before then signing with the Ravens mid-course last year. Teams have continued to take a chance on him simply due to his big arm and the hope that they can turn him into to something others haven't. If he has hopes of locking in the backup QB role during training camp, his play will have to get a lot better, but Joe Flacco is in absolutely no danger of losing his starting role in Baltimore.

Though Mallett finished the season as a starter for the Ravens, his season was very underwhelming. After issues during training camp with the Texans, Mallett began the season as a backup to Brian Hoyer only to take over the starting job and lose it again. Houston then cut Mallett and he ended up in Baltimore. Basically the last two weeks were a showcase to see if Mallett can be a serviceable backup to Joe Flacco next season. He didn't do all that well on Sunday, but let's face it, the Ravens are a team depleted by injury, so all of the blame can't be placed on Mallett's shoulder. He will land somewhere next season, but it remains to be seen whether Baltimore will retain him.

Mallett broke the Steelers' hearts on Sunday and made a big statement. He showed maturity issues with the Texans earlier this year, but when given an opportunity with Baltimore, he showed he deserved the chance. The Ravens will start Mallett next week against the Bengals and use it as an audition for a backup job next season. He's nothing more than a contrarian GPP play in DFS leagues.
