Bengals plan to promote practice squad QB Keith Wenning to the active roster.
The Bengals need a backup quarterback while Andy Dalton is sidelined with a thumb injury, so the team will turn to Wenning, who will be next in line if something happens to AJ McCarron. McCarron makes his first start against the 30th ranked defense in the San Francisco 49ers so there’s a strong chance the Bengals rely on the run game of Jeremy Hill and Gio Bernard and not the right arm of the former Alabama quarterback.
The Bengals have promoted Keith Wenning from the practice squad.
Wenning is reportedly being promoted to the active roster to be the back-up quarterback to A.J. McCarron, so he is not fantasy relevant. Jonathan Impemba has suggested that fantasy owners in seasonal leagues should try to pick-up Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kirk Cousins or Alex Smith if you are desperate for a quarterback.
Free-agent QB Keith Wenning signed with the Bengals Wednesday.
Wenning was signed as depth at the quarterback position for the Bengals. He spent last year on the Ravens' practice squad, but they deemed him expendable, releasing him in May. He will have zero fantasy impact in 2015.
Ravens signed quarterbacks Keith Wenning and Bryn Renner, defensive backs Victor Hampton and Quinton Pointer, offensive tackle Marcel Jones, tight ends Allen Reisner and Konrad Reuland, fullback Kiero Small, and defensive end Zach Thompson to Reserve/Future contracts.
These moves are just a way of trying to get their training camp and practice squads in order for over the offseason, so the team scouts and decision makers can fully focus on the bigger signings once free agency and the draft season begin.
