Browns agreed to terms with OT Cornelius Lucas, formerly of the Commanders, on a two-year contract.
Veteran Lucas served as the Commanders’ No. 3 tackle for the past half decade. He’s made at least four starts each of the past six seasons, reaching seven starts five times in that timespan. Going on 34, he’s an experienced depth signing for a Browns team that had no shortage of offensive line issues in 2024.
T Cornelius Lucas was seen wearing a boot on his left foot after the Commanders’ Week 8 win over the Bears.
Lucas is the Commanders’ highest-graded pass blocker, boasting an 85.6 PFF pass-blocking grade. Jayden Daniels’ pass protection would take a big hit if Lucas were to miss time.
Commanders re-signed LT Cornelius Lucas to a two-year, $8.2 million contract.
Lucas provides tackle depth for Washington. He acquitted himself well as a starter for part of the 2021 season after Washington lost starting LT Sam Cosmi to injury. Asked about offers in free agency, Lucas said other teams were "fakin' and booty shakin'. Washington was the only one who came through." The Commanders had 2021's fourth best pass-blocking offensive line, per Pro Football Focus.
Washington declared LT Cornelius Lucas, FS Deshazor Everett, LB Jared Norris, WR Jeff Badet, and WR Robert Foster inactive for Week 12 against the Cowboys.
Washington will start Morgan Moses at left tackle and slide David Sharpe to right tackle to make up for Lucas' absence. Troy Apke will also make his second consecutive start at free safety for Everett.
