Brandon Meriweather suffered a knee sprain in Week 17.
Meriweather's game, and season, ended with a knee injury on Sunday. Thankfully for Meriweather and the Giants it was diagnosed as just a sprain and nothing more serious. But New York got hurt with a ton of injuries at the safety position, and Meriweather's exit in the third quarter was the latest of the bunch. The Giants will now regroup in the offseason to gear up for 2016, but at safety rookie Landon Collins does have some talent if they are unable to stay healthy at the position once again.
Brandon Meriweather is practicing Wednesday.
Meriweather started for most of the season for the Giants, but injured his knee in early December and was then eventually released by the team. The safety re-signed with the team after a roster spot opened up due to an injury. The Giants are hurting at the safety position so the veteran will provide depth for the team.
Giants have released S Brandon Meriweather.
Meriweather was reportedly dealing with a knee injury, so this could indicate that the knee injury was pretty serious. The Giants have signed Cofield to replace him on the active roster.
Brandon Meriweather (knee) will be limited in Wednesday's practice.
Meriweather was forced to miss the past two weeks with a knee injury. The fact that he is practicing at all is a good sign for his status in Week 15 against the Panthers. He has amassed 53 total tackles with two interceptions this season in 11 games played.
