Player News
49ers placed ILB Chris Borland on the reserve/retired list.
Borland retired early in this offseason, so he logically would make the transition to this "list". It has also been reported that he will pay back most of his signing bonus.
Chris Borland says he's returning most of his signing bonus to the 49ers.
Borland, who retired earlier this month due to worries over long term effects to his brain, will be returning three quarters of the signing bonus he received from the team after being drafted by them just last year. It's a classy move by the 24-year old, and should make a relatively stressful process a bit easier, due to less complaining from the team.
Chris Borland says he's retiring from NFL after just one season.
He was one of the top rookies last season, but he is retiring due to concerns about the long-term effects of repetitive head trauma. The 49ers have now lost Patrick Willis and Borland to retirement. Well, the 49ers have a lot of holes to fill on defense before the season rolls around.
49ers placed LB Chris Borland (ankle) on season-ending injured reserve..
Borland had a superb breakout season, tallying 84 solo tackles as part of his overall 107 total tackles. He also had a sack, five pass deflections and two interceptions in 14 games. He stepped in when Patrick Willis went down with a toe injury, and should be on your IDP radar for 2015.
