Desmond Bryant has agreed to take a pay cut from $6 million to $1.25 million for this season while he is on the Non-Football Injury list.
Cleveland was under no obligation to pay Bryant after being placed on the non-football injury list, but agreed to pay $1.25 million. Bryant is in the fourth year of his five-year, $34 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed. Bryant stands to make base salaries of $6 million and $7 million over the next two years.
Desmond Bryant will miss all of this season due to a torn pectoral muscle.
He injured the muscle while lifting weights earlier in the offseason and had hoped that he waould be able to return. However the 4-6 month rehab time means that he would have missed the vast majority of it even on the short end of the time frame. This is a big loss for the Browns as Bryant was their leading sack getter in 2015, giving Hue Jackson yet another challenge in the continuing rebuild to deal with.
Desmond Bryant (pectoral) said he's hopeful he can make it back in 2016.
Bryant is more of a body on the defensive line rather than an IDP performer, so this news holds little fantasy relevancy. Best of luck to him on his return.
Desmond Bryant is likely to miss the 2016 season with a torn pectoral muscle.
Bad news for the Browns and Bryant, as he recorded his best season as a pro, recording six sacks for a Browns D that was 27th in the league in total yards allowed.
